Lighter and stronger than stainless steel, titanium is slowly replacing the popular sports watch material mainstay. Despite its higher price tag, titanium has garnered a cachet in recent years thanks to advancements made to the alloy that have made it arguably more favorable than its progenitor. An increasing number of watchmakers have been making the switch with some of their timepieces, with some even sporting the same models and colorways as their steel counterparts.
One such example of the titanium surge is Zodiac’s popular Super Sea Wolf Pro-Diver, which takes the green and orange variant of the steel Super Sea Wolf and gives it some new features in celebration of the brand’s 140th anniversary. Along with the new titanium case, which makes it lighter and more durable, the new limited edition watch adds a sleek black dial, increases the thickness to the bezel markers, and trades in the steel jubilee bracelet for a titanium beads-of-rice item.
The case size also increases from 40mm to 42mm, and the movement switches from Zodiac’s typical STP engine to a COSC-certified Sellita SW 200-1 automatic chronometer. Despite the material and movement change, the most notable aspect here — at least aesthetically — may actually be the color choice. Inspired by the beauty of the sunlight-reflecting Arctic Sea ice, the seafoam green bezel is given a phosphorescent lume treatment, making this colorful summer watch just as fun in the dark.
Featuring ISO-certified diver’s watch water resistance up to 30 ATM (300m), the Super Sea Wolf Pro-Diver Titanium is available in limited quantities via Zodiac’s website starting today for $2,495.
